Davis, WV (HNN) -- Within driving distance of the summer heat and humidity of most Eastern seaboard and Midwestern cities you can find a real change of pace in a high altitude resort nestled in the highest valley east of the Rockies.
Timberline Four Seasons Resort, located on the Eastern Continental Divide in North Central West Virginia, is not located near any large town or city, in fact, the closest location on your map is the small village of Davis, located ten miles away.
But in this remote area of the Appalachian Mountains, Timberline Resort hosts a summer time of music festivals, holiday celebrations, polished first class local food and beverage service and a wide variety of lodging capabilities including immediately on site lodging facilities. And although it is recognized to be one of the region’s finest snow sports facilities, the resort’s summer vacation potential is less well known.
This portion of North Central West Virginia is an easy drivable location ideal for families or groups in vans or buses to escape to a totally different way of life and to isolated pristine surroundings to enjoy the resort’s summer activities in cool mountain air with an average of 15 degrees cooler than surrounding Eastern and Midwestern cities.
Outdoor activities include the scenic chair lift rides encompassing 1,000 feet of vertical from the valley floor at 3,200 feet to the summit of the resort’s Herz Mountain at over 4,200 feet. At this altitude visitors will require some cold weather attire as they view the miles of West Virginia Mountains. At the point of exit of the chair lift the famous Dolly Sods Wilderness Area is just a few feet away. This area is a favorite for summer hiking over the original and primeval tundra-like biologic spectacle which biologically resembles the plant life of 500 miles to the north. Or from this point mountain biking can be taken down the mountain trails to the base lodge in the valley below.
The full service mountain bike shop is open daily in the main lodge at Timberline. Close by, the Timberline horse stables are open for guided trail rides. Also in the main lodge The Fireside Grill and Timbers Pub is open daily all year with full menu. Every Friday night the Grill offers a coconut or steamed shrimp special. Every Saturday night the Grill offers award winning ribs which have become a regional favorite.
On June 22-23, 2007, Timberline will host the annual summer Celtic Music Festival, Friday evening from 8:00 p.m. till midnight and Saturday from 3:00 p.m. till midnight. The increasingly popular Celtic music will be presented by recognized Celtic artists.
The program will include traditional Irish songs, both vocal and instrumental, quintessential Celtic sounds on mandolin, fiddle and guitar. Late evening performances will highlight Irish rock both Friday and Saturday. There is no cover charge for any of the performances.
Timberline’s annual summer mountain and country music festival will be held July 20-21, 2007. Visitors will enjoy the sounds of West Virginia’s rich musical heritage presented by Roy Scott, the legendary star of the world famous WWVA Jamboree and MGM recording artists. Mr. Scott appears Friday evening and Saturday evening with Jan and Lori of Harmony Scott, who have been featured on Nashville Network and have performed with national acts such as Mel Tillis, Roy Clark, Janie Fricke and Marie Osmond. There is no cover charge for the performances.
On August 3-4, 2007, visitors at Timberline will go back in time for a weekend in the Old West at annual Frontier Weekend. Visitors will see an authentic cow camp and chuck wagon complete with all the appropriate gear and a live shoot out on horse back. During the weekend there will be trail rides, barbecue, square dancing and old Western and mountain music live by the Saddle Tramps.
Motor bike races complete with entertainment, food and beverage, trail rides, and evening live entertainment will on occur the weekend of August 10-11, 2007. For more information call 1-304-304-4801 or visit www.timberlineresort.com.
