EDITORIAL: Manchin Outdoes Moore in Shamelessness
The citizens of West Virginia have put up with more than their
fair share of shameless behavior by their elected officials over
the years. One need only remember the fall of Arch Moore or
A. James Manchin to revive bad memories of a state citizenry
that was disrespected and taken for the ultimate ride.
Jay Rockefeller, meanwhile, offended by being so obtuse himself, an embarrasment of a Governor who is best known for his full-blown panic involving the snowstorm that never came. Well, what did we expect from a non-native?
But lately, Governor Joe Manchin seems to be vying for the top prize in the Shameless Olympics, and some of us, quite frankly, never thought Governor Moore could be surpassed for arrogance.
But even Moore would've had to assess the political atmospherics involved in lecturing the state's citizenry over a matter involving one of his own family members. Moore, for all his other warts, would be smarter than that. And that's the difference, we suppose, with Governor Manchin and his incredible blindness at telling the state to chill when it comes to our legitimate concerns about his hand-picked President of WVU, Mike Garrison.
When you consider that it was Manchin's own daughter, Heather Manchin Bresch, who started this whole potboiler, is it not simply breathtakingly arrogant for Manchin to tell us anything other than to mumble an apology?
