Bluefield, WV (BNN) -- The Bluefield Downtown Merchants Association met at
the Chamber of Commerce office Monday evening, Oct. 24, 2005 to discuss
three issues. First, they discussed the annual Christmas Parade. The half
century old parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005 at 11:00 am.
The parade will begin on the corner of North Street and Bland, continue to
Federal Street, on to Princeton Avenue and end at the Fire Station.
The Merchants also passed a resolution supporting the economic
revitalization of the Bluefield City Board of Directors efforts. The
resolution encourages the Board to continue its pursuit of development
grants and partnerships that will result in the economic growth of the city.
Finally, the merchants wholeheartedly endorsed a parking ban in the downtown
from 11 p.m. untill 5 a.m. This will allow street sweepers and snow plows to
operate overnight without having to navigate around vehicles. The Bluefield
City Board will take up this issue at its next meeting Tuesday, Oct. 25,
2005.
