The Incredible Flying Car of Bluefield, WV

Bluefield, WV (BNN) -- This reporter was driving east on Bluefield Avenue at
about 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2006. As I approached the entrance of Captain
D's Seafood restaurant a car flew (that's right, flew) right in front of me
with a trail of glass and debris along with it crossing all four lanes of
Bluefield Avenue and finally hitting three vehicles in a lot on the north
side of the avenue. Here's what happened.
The car (a green midsize Pontiac) was coming down Hoge Street. The driver
claimed the brakes did not work, causing the car to crash through a cyclone
fence, over a thirty foot retaining wall, smashing on to the Captain D's
parking lot, and then bouncing and propelling through heavy east and west
traffic on the Avenue.
As the vehicle moved through the air in front of me, it was so close I could
see the occupants inside car. Had I arrived a second or two earlier I may
not have been able to file this report.
Pictured is the path of the airborne car, the place where it landed in the
parking lot, and where it finally came to rest in the lot across the avenue.
If I had my camera with me at the time we could have shown the immediate
damage caused by this freak incident.
