ELECTION RESULTS: Tuesday's Big Winners

By Craig Hammond

Tuesday's unofficial top vote getters are Dan Bowling, Lou Stoker, and Bob Richardson.

Incumbent Dan Bowling received 3,350 votes (54%) to Mickey McGlothlin's 2784 votes (46%) in the 3rd legislative district of the Virginia House of Delegates primary election.

Bowling won big in Tazewell and Russell Counties. McGlothlin doubled-up Bowling in Buchanan County, but it wasn't enough to get the nomination. No Republican candidate has filed for the seat. Unless a well orchestrated campaign for a write-in candidate emerges, Bowling will retain his seat in the House.

In area Municipal elections, Lou Stoker receved 94 votes to incumbent Molly Robinette's 87 votes in the Bramwell mayoral race. The mayor's election in Bramwell has historically been razor close. Over the years, the winner has been decided by a coin toss and the drawing of straws. This year may not be any different after challenged ballots are ruled upon and absentee votes are counted.

Mayor Robert Richardson of Athens won easliy -- again. Richardson has been mayor for more than twenty years.

All vote totals, of course, are unofficial until certified.
