Marshall Gets First CUSA Win with 31-24 Victory over Division Co-Leader UAB

Marshall Thundering Herd star running back Ahmad Bradshaw ran for a school record 242 yards leading to a huge first half and key plays down the stretch as the Herd defeated the UAB Blazers 31-24 Saturday Oct. 21, 2006 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Bradshaw's record yardage surpassed the previous record set by Chris Parker, 202 yards Nov. 6, 1993 vs. East Tennessee State.
 
Marshall's defense forced two first half interceptions leading to scores.
 
Bradshaw, a graduate of Graham High School, Bluefield, VA, gave the Herd a 7-0 lead as he ended a 9 play, 80 yard drive in 4:42 with a 26 yards TD run.
 
UAB struck right back with a 45 yard TD run by Marculus Elliott on the first play of their drive. A missed pat left the
 
Herd with a 7-6 lead with 6:29 to go in the first.
 
Chubb Small answered for Marshall in their next possesion as he went on 49 yard TD scamper. At the 2:09 mark of the first quarter MU led 14-6.
 
Marshall quarterback Bernard Morris next hit a wide open Matt Morris on a 31 yard TD strike. With 14:48 to go in the half they built a 21-6 lead.
 
Blazer quarterback Chris Williams' 8 yard run and 2 point conversion run brought them back to a 21-14 deficit at the 7:20 point of the second quarter.
 
Bradshaw closed out the first half scoring with a 68 yard TD run with 6:00 left to go in the half giving The Herd a 28-14 halftime lead.
 
Chris Williams hit Jordan Irwin with a 34 yard TD pass with 10:41 in the third quarter to get UAB back to within seven, 28-21.
 
MU receiver Marcus Fitzgerald and backup quarterback Jimmy Skinner combined on two spectacular catches by Fitzgerald leading to a 41 yard Anthony Binswanger field goal. With 9:50 to go in the game Marshall led 31-21.
 
Bernard Morris left the game in the third quarter with a ankle/foot injury.
 
Both receptions by Fitzgerald in the drive were his only two for 42 yards.
 
Swazy Waters hit a 42 yard field goal for UAB with 6:24 left in the game to bring UAB within seven. But the Blazers could get no closer.
 
Beckley's Shavar Greer sacked quarterback Chris Williams on fourth down of The Blazers final drive to end their final drive.
 
Marshall's Chubb Small compiled 166 all purpose yards with 82 return, 59 rush, and 25 receiving yards.
 
The Herd outgained UAB 473-342 in total yards.
