Martinsburg, WV (HNN) – Citing his “tireless efforts on behalf of working families in our state,” the United Auto Workers West Virginia Community Action Program (CAP) on Oct. 13, 2005 endorsed U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd for re-election to the United States Senate in 2006, “where he can once again represent the state of West Virginia as its senior Senator.”

"Senator Byrd is a champion for working men and women. He understands the challenges that working families face -- raising children, paying the bills, making sure that we have health care today and pensions at our retirement. Senator Byrd is a friend to working people everywhere. He stands up for us. He does right by West Virginia," said Ken Collinson, President, UAW West Virginia State CAP. "The United Auto Workers of America are proud to stand with Senator Robert Byrd."

Collinson added: “The Senator is the longest-serving member of the U.S. Congress because he has repeatedly served the working families of our state. His continued hard work to improve the lives and safety of not only West Virginians, but of all Americans, has earned him our trust and confidence. It is an honor for us to continue to give Senator Robert C. Byrd our support and endorsement.”
