Bettinger Honored for 2,600 Hours of American Lung Assn. of WV Volunteer
Work
By HNN Staff
Charleston, WV (HNN) – Margaret Bettinger was recently honored for her
dedication and volunteer service to the American Lung Association of West
Virginia. Bettinger received the Emily Bissell Volunteer Award at a special
awards ceremony and luncheon attended by American Lung Association staff,
Board of Directors and others being honored.
For seven and a half years, Margaret Bettinger has been a volunteer for the
American Lung Association of West Virginia. Three days a week, she offers
her services and office skills. Margaret retired from Union Carbide and
started her volunteer career with ALA in 1998. Since that time, she has
contributed over 2600 hours of volunteer time to our mission. Many times
during the workday, you can often hear someone yelling, “Hey Margaret! Got
something for you to do.” The next thing you know, Margaret’s there and
ready to do whatever needs to be done. Her work ranges from answering the
phone to entering names into DataTrack. She really does it all—no job is too
big or too small!
Margaret’s zest for life itself keeps the staff going. Her sense of humor
permeates the walls around us. Her pleasant voice and helpful manner create
a calming atmosphere to visitors and staff alike. Margaret plans to continue
volunteering because we are her family away from home. Eighty-two years
young, Margaret brings peace and enthusiasm to the office. We are blessed in
many ways to have Margaret as a member of our Lung Association family.
